Vodafone has announced the acquisition of the subsidiaries of Tele2 in Italy and Spain. Although the transaction has not closed pending the approval of the competent authorities, the purchase price amounts to 775 million euros.
With this acquisition, Vodafone will increase its portfolio of clients considerably: 550,000 customers in Spain – of which 240,000 are broadband – while in Italy with 2.6 million customers – of which over 400,000 are broadband.
We like Vodafone is entering the market for fixed broadband in Spain and Italy, which leads the market for some time fighting. Recall that Vodafone tried to buy a few months ago but was finally Yacom Orange who stayed with the company, or the possibility of agreements with Jazztel to use its fiber optic network.
Vodafone is now able to offer “quadruple play”, which consists of fixed telephony, mobile telephony, ADSL and television being the main rival Telefonica, Vodafone, Orange and ONO (although the latter without mobile phone).
Meanwhile, Jazztel offers triple play (phone + ADSL + TV) and have to leave OMV (virtual mobile operator), may be in on the mobile phone market.
