The National Competition Commission (CNC) has opened a case against the three big operators in Spain – Movistar, Vodafone and Orange – for rising rates of 25% made on March 1, which could have been agreed between the operators. As you know, this increase corresponded to the law that eliminated the rounding of prices and forced to charge per second.
Thus, we are starting to seek punitive measures for the three companies, which could involve up to 10% of annual turnover, which translates into millions in fines. According to the OCU, the revenues obtained by operators with the rise in rates would mean a 60% more than it gained from rounding (billed per minute). Movistar get about 628.6 million, Vodafone Orange 217.4 million and 362.4 million euros more than before the entry into force of law.
This is a clear example of what happens when a law is not made as well as it should be. On the one hand, the user cree be benefiting consumers and pay less with the new law, but by contrast, their rates go up operators that produces the opposite effect. What do you think?
